CRUZET-4 is ongoing (started last week), and use of CMSSW_2_1_X, which has all the updates developed in the past few months,
has been restored after a panic about the StorageManager required a down-grade to CMSSW_2_0_X.

YE+1, 2, and 3 were closed last week, YE-1, 2, and 3 should be closing now (I think 1 is done).

This week, there will be some magnet tests at night.
        Monday: 300 A
        Tuesday: 2000 A
        Wednesday: 1 T
        Thursday: 2 T
        Friday: 3 T

As you probably know, the LHC promises to circulate a single beam on September 10 (probably 450 GeV). A few weeks ago,
a beam was injected through ALICE to IP3; I think a beam in the other direction, through LHCb is next (may already be
    happening).

    CMS Week is September 22-26.

There was an old, vaguely-worded deadline for the LHC on September 21. It has probably been superceded by the September 10
    single-beam milestone.

TAMU has an EMU shift from September 22 through 29, from 4PM-midnight CERN-time, and then owl shifts October 6-13 and
    November 3-10.

    [Comment] Check the significance of
    the impact parameter.

[Comment] Events in the 2-probg bin
    will be dominated by "misidentified"
    3-prong tau's.
    [Comment] You are using PFtau
    and PFgamma. Why don't you
    use PFjet instead of CALOjet
    for the zero-jet requirement?

[Answer] PFjet will be better in
its performance. But we try to
be away from the analysis using
the entire "PF" objects in the
    earlier stage of CMS.

Abstract: We demonstrate how much it is possible to deviate from the standard cosmological paradigm of inflation-assisted LambdaCDM, keeping within current observational constraints, and without adding to or modifying any theoretical assumptions. We show that within a minimal framework there are many new possibilities, some of them wildly different from the standard picture. We present three illustrative examples of new models, described phenomenologically by a noncanonical scalar field coupled to radiation and matter. These models have interesting implications for inflation, quintessence, reheating, electroweak baryogenesis, and the relic densities of WIMPs and other exotics.

Frank Chlebana, "FastSim Validation and Pile-Up Studies" - [summary by Mike Weinberger] The talk was Hcal and shower centered, and did not mention the tracker at all. The first part of the talk went over comparisons between Generated quantities, Full sim, and Fastsim. When Hcal saturation for Fastsim was tuned properly, the matched very well, with better agreement in the low Pt region. There are a few things that don't agree fully between full and fast sim, and these have been reported to the FastSim team to be fixed.

For the pileup studies, a lot of it was focused on the behavior of the different jet algos. The biggest issue is that FastSim can not create out of time pile up, which is very important in the Hcal. The plan is to include the capability.

[Tool] CMSSW 1.6.8, Iterative 0.5 cone jets, Jet energy correction (16X)
    [Selections] pT(l1) > 50, pT(l2) > 25, MET > 20, N(j) >=5 with pT > 30 → pT(j1) > 100, pT(j2) > 80
    [Result] 5σ observation at 240 pb-1 for M(heavy top = 500 GeV)
[Comments] bb + jets could be a serious source of BG

  • The "Calibration and alignment constants used in reconstruction for CSA07 and their Scenarios" can be found at URL From that page:

HCAL: Before the LHC operation starts, we assume that the HCAL (HB,HE,HF) channels would be calibrated within 5% of its final value. This is achieved with the pre-calibration measurements already made with the wire sourcing.

10 pb-1: Just as an exercise, we have added a 10% shift in the gains. This is not expected, but will allow us to test the available machinery for calibration. The main calibration channels to be tested here are the phi-asymmetry and the 1 track.

100 pb-1: The gains have a 5% smearing. The purpose will be to have a more detailed calibration that includes di-jets, gamma+Jets and Z+Jets.
