From: "Philippe Galvez" To: "all US CMS" Cc: "EVO" Subject: EVO recommended video/audio hardware equipments Date: Sunday, January 20, 2008 5:10 PM Dear Colleagues, We have received several requests concerning the recommended video/audio equipments to use with EVO. Since this is probably of interest for the entire US CMS community, I am sending this information to the list. Note, that very soon, a link to recommended hardware will be added to the EVO web site, so I invite you from time to time to look in into it so see any update information. After testing several equipments, we are recommended the following: o Camera: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/devices/3056&cl=us,en) It works very well for Windows (and on Mac if you installed the beta driver available). For Mac, the usually build-in camera (or the old firewire InSight camera) works fine. For Linux, so far it is known to work with the Logitech QuickCam 4000 and 5000. o Mic/Speaker: The Phoenix audio Duet device with echo cancellation built-in: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000BL28M6 This is clearly the best choice, it works without driver installation and so for all platforms (Window/Mac/Linux). It includes a speaker and microphone and so you can easily bring it with you while traveling and can be used very easily from hotel room, conference, or ad-hoc meeting planed in "non-equipped" conference room with network connection alone without laptop/PC. It could also be used with external speakers in case of a larger local audience. o Headset: Plantronics Audio 400 DSP http://www.headsetsdirect.com/plantronics/audiodsp400.html?c1=ppc&source=Google&kw=DSP400&gclid=CLLrwuzdhZECFRpdagod9hWdHA This is in case you are looking for the convenience of a headset for individual usage. Also, note that these recommended hardware are also available from the CERN PC Shop so CERN users (and collaborators) and easily gets via CERN internal purchase using team account. See below the CERN link: http://it-multimedia.web.cern.ch/it-multimedia/collaborative/recommendations.html I hope this will help you to select the correct hardware to optimize your collaboration environment (and experience to remote users too). Don't hesitate to contact the EVO team (evosupport@vrvs.org) if you need more information or help. Regards, -- EVO Team _ _
