Low Temperature Condensed Matter Physics Lab
Texas A&M University
This laboratory is headed by Prof. Donald G. Naugle ("The Boss").
We study transport and magnetic properties of both crystalline
and amorphous materials at temperatures down to 0.3K.
Research Areas
We currently have experiments underway in the following areas:
-
Magnetic properties of Rare-Earth Nickle-Boro-Carbides
-
Hall Effect and Magneto-Resistance of LaCaMn Oxides
-
Superconducting properties of Ultra-thin Mo-Ru alloy films
Available Research Equipment
-
Lakeshore
Model 7000 Extraction AC Susceptometer and AC/DC Magnetometer
System with 9T Magnet. Sample measurements possible at the highest
fields from 1.25K to Room Temperature. Have probe inserts for both
ACS/DCM and Resistivity measurements.
-
Vacuum Generators Ultra-High-Vacuum Deposition System. This system
is pumped by an LN2-trapped diffusion pump and has two 10KV electron
beam guns and two 150A resistive evaporation sources.
-
Super-insulated Precision Cryogenic Systems, Inc. magnet dewar with
7T AMI Solenoid. Have two homebuilt insert cryostats for this dewar to
measure Hall Effect and Magneto-Resistance.
-
General purpose high-vacuum deposition system with two 150A resistive
evaporation sources.
-
General purpose high-vacuum deposition system with two 150A Knudsen
cells and one 150A resistive evaporation source.
-
Homebuilt Melt Spinner for spinning amorphous ribbons.
-
Splat Quencher.
